UA’s in-vehicle telematics monitoring system is a promising new intervention to reduce the growing burden of road injury, including the rising social costs, globally.

Data attained from sensors in the motor vehicle provides feedback to the driver about important safety parameters. This innovative application has enormous utility with respect to reducing the burden of road injury. Recent research by UA suggests providing driver feedback (via telematics) to high-risk drivers for example, leads to safer driving behaviours including reduced high-range speeding events and fewer extreme harsh braking events per 1,000km travelled.

UA has extensively evaluated its technology and found that using dynamic incentives, including personalised driver feedback along with dynamic financial incentives, significantly changes risky driving behaviours. Our recent product now combines road safety with emissions reductions and the findings are very exciting.

Dynamic Incentives

  • A unique element of UA’s offering is the ability to integrate dynamic incentives to influence driver behaviours.
  • UA’s platform integrates a dynamic incentive structure to drivers providing a unique mechanism for sustained user engagement and long-term behavioural change, setting it apart from static feedback or passive monitoring tools.
  • We have found that in combining personalised driver feedback with financial incentives we can deliver important and statistically significant reductions in risky driving behaviours . This is an important finding for stakeholders, including policy makers, who want to evaluate the costs and benefits of telematics-based behaviour change interventions.
  • The availability of UA’s technology that can continuously monitor individual behaviour, raises the potential for personalised and adaptive design of incentives, including vehicle emissions reduction feedback.
  • We have demonstrated that combining personalised feedback with a dynamic, emissions-linked incentives can reduce average emissions by up to 12.8 grams of CO₂ per kilometre.

UA’s technology tracks individual users’ driving behaviour within fleet operations. It is based on extensive scientific research into different modes of fossil fuelled and EV emitting transport and their baseline safety, emissions, and fuel use factors. It has been designed to track a larger number of core variables that identify more data points than current global reporting methods.

Tracking an array of variables allows us to determine your Scope 1 and 3 emissions with a higher level of accuracy to support the increasingly mandatory regulatory emissions reporting globally. The insights that the data and information provides enables us to introduce sustainable interventions and solutions that can track and reduce emissions and fuel reductions, as well as improve safety.

Our technology provides a fully integrated feedback system that provides social and environmental data points that will assist in reducing emissions and promoting safer driving. We are strongly aligned with and aim to materially contribute to the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals 3 (Good Health and Well-Being) and 13 (Climate Action). Our team is highly specialised in developing reporting solutions for a range of global reporting standards including the European Sustainability Reporting Standards (ESRS) and Australia’s AASB-S1 and AASB-S2. We have designed both EcoPoints and DrivePoints to align with voluntary carbon market standards (Gold Standard for the Global Goals).

UA’s technology produces direct user feedback to induce more sustainable and safer driving behaviours, calculated as EcoPoints© (Emissions) and DrivePoints© (Safety). Additional reportable features include FuelPoints© (Fuel Consumption and Savings) and RiskPoints© (TBA), which indicate potential reductions in risk premium for car insurance.

The telematics data collected supports calculations on aggregate fuel consumption, emissions and safety across vehicle fleets. This enables real time reporting of fleet emissions and corporate transport emission reductions to integrate into corporate Scope 1 & 3 reporting for compliance, and for voluntary sustainability reporting purposes.

UA presents an easy integrated software suite via SDK and API, which can be adapted to existing telematics software to facilitate the provision of direct feedback to employees and for carbon accounting purposes.

UA’s software solutions have been extensively field tested to confirm the accuracy and reliability of its outputs, providing confidence and reliability to corporate Scope 1 & 3 reporting.
